Amid much speculation it's finally confirmed, Britney Spears WILL open MTV's Video Music Awards on Sunday.

"MTV has long played an important role in my career. How can I not be there to kick off their 25th VMAs?" Spears, 26, told People in a statement. "I'm excited to open the entire show, to say hi to my fans and to be nominated."

Whether Brit Brit will perform, however, remains to be seen. [People] But sources, who might be fucking with us, including Spears' manager Larry Rudolph, say she WON'T.

"Contrary to media reports, Britney was never slated to perform on this year's VMAs," Rudolph previously said in a statement. "She's in the middle of recording her next album, which is going amazingly well, and her focus remains on the studio."

Spears' "Piece of Me" is up for Best Female Pop Video and Video of the Year.

The VMAs air from Los Angeles at 9 p.m. on September 5.

Star Jones has a new boyfriend (uh-oh). His name is Herb Wilson. And he is the executive chef at Manhattan's Soho and Tribeca Grand hotels.

No word on exactly how long the two have been dating. But an anonymous "friend" described the relationship as "new;" and said "he makes her very happy."

Jones, 46, and Big Gay Al (Reynolds, 38) were married for three and half years, before they filed for divorce in March. [People]

Even though I like Lohan, 22, a lot more since she's become a lesbian, this movie looks pretty fucking terrible.

And since when is that Chicken Little guy (Kevin Covais, 19) from American Idol, season five, an actor? I saw him in the trailer for this, and in a preview for, that also terrible-looking movie, College.

On the plus side, though, none of LiLo's Labor Pains co-stars complained about her work ethic (or lack thereof).

The Hills got the green light for a fourth season. Donkey balls! According to US, "the new season will premiere in August with 19 new episodes; and will be about 'what the girls end up doing this summer.'" Scintillating stuff!

Thankfully the current season ends May 12. Sweet reprieve! Unfortunately "it will end with a pre- and post- show party in the Hollywood Hills (to air live on MTV). Usher and rapper Young Jeezy will perform their hit 'Love in This Club.'" Good lord! Why?[US]

Brit Brit and K-Fed are back in court for a progress review regarding their child custody dispute. Nothing groundbreaking to report, as of 10:10 a.m. PT. Scott Weston, an L.A. family lawyer, not involved with the case, told People there likely won't be.

"As long as Britney [Spears] remains under a conservatorship, she has a long way to go before the court views her as a capable mother," he said.

Spears will remain under conservatorship, with her father, and a lawyer, maintaining control of her legal affairs, until their scheduled hearing on July 31; maybe longer. [People, TMZ]

Update 1:25 p.m. PT: Us Weekly is reporting that Spears's visitation rights were expanded during today's custody hearing. "There was no change in custody, Kevin Federline's attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan said at a press conference, but he said her time with her boys will be 'more than it has been.'"

Moving on. Did Lindsay Lohan steal some bitch's $11,000 blonde mink coat? It sure looks that way. Word is, she eventually returned the death shroud to its rightful owner, but she left it smelling of cigarettes and booze. To be fair, that's just the scent of Lohan's pheromones. [NY Post]
